A Wonderfully Happy Ending

Bear, an 8 year old, German Shepard mix, came to Second Chance due to some very tragic circumstances. His elderly owner, Don, had taken ill and had to be placed in the care of a Nursing Home. Don had lost his wife earlier in the year as well and now was to be without his beloved dog. Bear, by his own owner's words, “is the biggest joy in my life.” He had adopted him from another MA shelter when he was only 1 or 2 yrs old. Bear and Don were best of friends and they meant the world to each other.

Bear was very depressed when he got to us and obviously missed his master deeply. He would lay in his run and stare out the kennel door into the outside world for hours on end. We placed him very quickly into one of our most loving and caring foster homes, so that he could once again enjoy a chance to enjoy life with his foster mom and he spend his day with her own dog as his companion. He was much happier and showed his personality for the first time to his new temporary family. He “took over “ the couch and loved to be silly and lay on his back, paws straight up in the air as he nuzzled in his blankets.

Don spent his days in the Nursing home doing his best to recover, and did. He told us that his motivation to get well, was to be able to get back to his own home and be with his buddy Bear. He did that, and he finally got well enough to get back to the comfort and security of his own home. But his Bear was not there. With noone to care for Bear, the family had surrendered him. Don was devastated.

Purely by fate, one of Don’s caretakers saw Bear on our web site and the contacts started to happen. Through a series of phone calls back and forth with Second Chance we were able to connect and figure out that our Bear, was really Don’s Bear.

A joyous, and somewhat tearful reunion was arranged and Bear is now back with his lifelong friend. Both are just so happy, and the smile on Don’s face and the content look on Bear’s as he lay beside his master was just more than anyone could ever imagine.

When we asked Don where Bear liked to spend most of his time, he pointed to the “couch”, where Bear’s blanket was spread out and waiting for him. Now his foster mom understood why he loved the couch at her home so much. A very Happy Ending, for a human and a dog, who love each other so, so much…… Don’t we all know how strong this bond is…….

Boo (fka Crabby Patty)

May 13, 2008
Hi Second Chance,
Crabby Patty is doing great she has adjusted just fine. We changed her name to Boo. She loves playing with her toys, she's sleeping with us and she' s traveling too. She's a little spoiled girl. We love her very much and we are so happy with her. Thank you for helping us out in finding a wonderful cat!

Red

May 13, 2008
Hi Second Chance,
Just wanted to give you an update as Red has been in his new home for just over a week now! He is doing great - he is crying a lot less at night when I go to bed and leave him to sleep in his bed in the kitchen. He is eating great and I gave him his first bath last week! He is playing with toys and chewing on bones and steals clothes of mine when I'm not looking and runs around the house with them in his mouth!! He sees the Vet this coming Saturday - so hopefully everything will be "A OK" ! I have a beach/lake at the end of my street and we walk down there every day - he seems to love it. I've included some new pics and will be in touch - and I just recvd his rabies tag in the mail - thank you! Thanks,

Alison

Shelby

May 13, 2008
Hi Second Chance,
Shelby is doing great and we're so lucky to have her in our family. We're having a blast with her and including her in our day to day activities as much as possible. Her house training is coming along pretty good although we don't leave her out and about in the house when we're not able to watch her every move. She sleeps in her crate at night and seems very comfy. We have been introducing her slowly to our friends dogs and she gets along with them really well and plays endlessly. Most mornings I take her on a two mile walk and she's doing really nicely on her leash, not pulling and is distracted by little. If I tell her to "leave it" and keep walking she comes right along. The boys are enjoying having her and they are both walking her on her leash "practicing" and playing with her constantly. Her favorite toys right now are plain old tennis balls (three at a time)! She'll chase and retrieve one ball, dribble another with her front paws and wait for the third ball to be launched. She would do that for hours if we humans had the energy! We're planning on continuing obedience and agility classes too as she's smart as a whip and full of life. Shelby saw the ocean for what I'm guessing to be the first time and didn't know quite what to make of it. When the waves would come rolling in she would get ready to play with them but then they would disappear. She was very excited and loved digging in the sand! We'll be sure to bring her to the beach again to play and try to catch the waves. I've attached a photo of Shelby. She's such a busy girl it's a bit tricky to get a good one, but we'll send more as soon as I have them. Thank you all for your labors of love for Shelby. She's a great little dog with a big heart and certainly deserves all the love she has received from all of you and will continue to get plenty from us!

Luna

May 13, 2008
Hi Second Chance,
Luna is doing great!!!!! She had one little accident last weekend....totally my fault because I waited too long to bring her out (she really hates the rain and cold- and I am right there with her with those feelings). We became the best of pals within the first few days and I believe that I was meant to help her with her shyness (we are working on that and I believe every day gets a little better). She is such a playful and mischievous little girl when she wants to be but also very respectful. She is getting to know the dogs in the neighborhood....some memorable and some forgettable! Luna and my brother's dog Lucy (another wonderful Second Chance find) have also become fast friends. She has her first introduction at the vet tomorrow morning and as soon as I can figure out how to send you pictures then I will send those along to you, also. Thanks for all of your help with helping me to find Luna. I believe that we were meant to be together!

Shadow

May 11, 2008
Hi Second Chance,
I am sending you a few photos of Shadow and his new best friend Zipper that I took out in my yard today. Shadow continues to adapt to his new surroundings - although I have discovered that he is quite the escape artist! He has been able to escape the confines of his pen nearly every time that he goes in there. I have also discovered that he is quite a "people pleaser". He is inquisitive and happy, and when someone new is around, he is the first to greet them.So. all is going quite well - everyone is happy, and Zipper is excited about her new pal. She is still a little posessive of her toys, though, but she is getting better. Shadow is very excited about having cats around ( I have 2- LB and Fat Boy). They are slowly getting used to the new arrival also. OK then - I will keep you updated. Enjoy the day!

Kelsey

May 10, 2008
Hi Second Chance,
Thank you for your email about Kelsey. Let me say Kelsey has had an easy time adjusting to our family. She is a very smart and lovable dog. You can tell that she was not given enough attention at her last home - she just clings to my wife. We had one minor problem with her jumping and knocking down our youngest son, but she she doesn’t do that anymore. My wife took her to the vet on Thursday for her checkup and everything was fine. Kelsey also had her first trip to PETSMART last Friday and got some new toys and treats, that was a task because she is always on the go. My family and I would like to thank you for letting us adopt Kelsey . We will stop by with her soon.

Scrappy Do

May 9, 2008
Hi Second Chance,
Just wanted to send you a message to let you know that Scrappy's first night in his new home went pretty well. He did well on the hour ride home, and has made good use of our fenced backyard. (I think he has explored all of it.). He and our daughter Riley became instant friends, and Scrappy also made friends with Daisey, the pointer that lives behind us. The two of them "play" with each other through the fence. Our cat, Hobo, and he are still working on getting acquainted. She is, of course, weary of this new energetic creature, but I think they just need some time to get to know each other. Scrappy seems very interested in her, in a friendly way. He whinned and barked in his crate at night, but did excellent when we just let him sleep on his own dog bed in our room. He didn't cause any problems all night. We ended the evening with a good long cuddle and petting in front of the TV. He does like to snuggle. Please tell Joe Craig that Scrappy is doing well, they seemed to have a very affectionate bond. Best regards,

Tracy S.

Sandy

May 9, 2008
Hi Second Chance,
We have Sandy!!! What a girl! She had a great night last night, having a good morning this morning. She is a very adaptable doggie! We're so excited to have her and will keep you up-dated from time to time. Thank you so much! You all have made us a VERY happy family :)

Clancey

May 8, 2008
Hi Second Chance,
Just wanted to give you an update on Clancey! He is doing great! We just love him! He certainly is a rambunctious (and mischevious...he got ahold of one of my shoes!) little guy! LOL. But he's a sweetheart and him and our dog Chloe get along great, the two of them could just play all day long if we let them. Yesterday we took them both to the park, Clancey had a blast chasing Chloe around and playing fetch with a tennis ball! He has already learned "sit" and we are working on "stay" and "down". "Stay" being the most important command since he likes to try and bolt out of door whenever someone comes in or out! Anyways, thank you so much for letting us take this little guy home! He is so much fun and has definately kept us on our toes! I will attach some pictures when I get a chance! Thanks Again!

Lisa and Bryan H.

Mischief (fka Ariel)

May 7, 2008
Hi Second Chance,
I wanted to thank your staff for helping us find a cat just right for our family. Ariel (now named Mischief) is settling in great. She loves playing with the kids, and while some cats might run with three adoring kids after her, she actually seeks them out when playtime is over! She also has a sweet affectionate side too. I have included a picture of her in her new home. Thanks for helping us find a great cat!

Robert, Kim, Dolan, Kaleigh and Abby H.

Jupiter

May 6, 2008
Hi Second Chance,
Thank you for the note. Actually "Jupiter" who is now "Chloe" is doing great. She pretty much stayed in my daughter's room her first week. But she is becoming braver and has been seen in all parts of the house now. She likes to sleep with my husband and I at night while my daughter is at school, but when she returns she loves my daughter and stays right with her. She is making friends with the dog that we adopted on the same day also. They are very cute together and are trying to make friends and are beginning to play together. We love them both. Thanks again for the note.

Mandy

Pluto

May 5, 2008
Hi Second Chance,
Pluto (still his name) is doing GREAT! He adjusted very quickly. He seems to be the perfect cat for us. He is playful, which the kids love, but also VERY GENTLE and loving which I love and so does my daughter (she was nervous about claws!) No matter how much she picks him up, he never gets upset with her, he never tries to scratch or bite her. He is so gentle and patient. He is a love bug! He loves to curl up in your lap or next to your leg on the couch/bed. Every time we pat him, his eyes just melt as if to say 'I'm so glad to be here and I love all this attention!' We are so happy to have him as a part of our family. The kids have many funny cat stories to share with people about all the funny things he does and the funny places we find him! Thanks again for making this such an easy and rewarding experience. I never imagined I would be a cat owner, and now I can't imagine our house without him! I'm also so glad to see that his sister Jupiter got adopted as well, along with just about all the cats we looked at when we first visited the shelter back in March. Take care,

The Peterson Family

Tigger and Pooh
(fka Mary and Zuzu)

May 4, 2008
Hi Second Chance,
Mary is now Tigger, and Zuzu is Pooh! It took some time for Zuzu to adjust, but Mary jumped right in. They love our bed, and have made our bedroom "home". When we get into bed, they join us and want all sorts of love - patting, scratching, etc. They have moments when they are skittish, but I think that's very normal. By the end of the summer, I'm sure they will be happy to sit in the living room with us - although Mary does enjoy watching the Red Sox games with my husband, Mickey. To be honest, I don't know which one enjoys it more as Mary gets lots of attention!!!! They're just a joy and we're loving every minute with them!!! Thank you so much,

Janet

Mia (fka Pink)

May 4, 2008
Hi Second Chance,
It has been 3 months to the day since we adopted Mia, and she is doing great. She is now potty trained and has not had any accidents in as long as I can remember. She is very proctective of the family and of our home and closest friends she's sees frequestly. I did not realize when we adopted her that she thought she was half cat. She sits on the back of the couch and watches the kids out the door and also falls asleep there as well. She has become a great addition to our family and we can not remember the days we ever spent with out her. Thanks again for all that you do.

Sandy, John, Jennifer & Mia

Stella

May 4, 2008
Hi Second Chance,
We just wanted to send this picture along and let you know that Stella is doing great! Here she is Geocaching (a sort of global, GPS powered treasure hunt) at the top of Poppo's Hundred Acre Hill in Woodstock, CT, reportedly the highest point between Union, CT and the Atlantic Ocean. She is loving strapping on her backpack and heading out into the woods for an adventure. We're using her "find it" skills to help sniff out these geocaches, and I think she's getting the hang of it! We're also getting her in shape to hopefully take her on some longer hikes in the White Mountains of New Hampshire this Spring and Summer. On another note, Stella's discovered that she's a frisbee dog and is learning to track down and even catch a disc! Thanks so much for bringing Stella into our home!

Hooch

April 28, 2008
Hi Second Chance,
Just wanted to forward a quick picture update of Hooch-- He has certainly grown (85 lbs now). I guess he likes the food!! He has lost a lot of the "puppy look" now, after all he's almost 9 mos now. We now have an official "obedience training" certificate, and we are signed up for the intermediate course. Hooch is sooooo handsome- and I think he knows it!!! His behavior is wonderful-- he seems to understand who the "boss" really is! He is truly a wonderful dog (despite the chewed up TV remote... lol), thanks so much for your help!

Mark and Cindy C.

Virgil
April 28, 2008
Hi Second Chance,
Hey guys! Thought I'd give you a quick update on Virgil (now Liam). I know it hasn't been very long, but I am SO HAPPY with this kid, I can't contain myself. :) It's been about 24 hours since I got him home, and already, he's opening up. He and Onyx have been getting along very well- Onyx has been a fabulous help getting Liam out of his crate in the morning, he doesn't want to leave it! She's been our ambassador, it's been great. The three of us went running around town for puppy supplies (and a bath!) and he was just a champ. He handled his bath better than Onyx ever does! This is one wonderful pup. He's respectful of the cats (he has no idea what my male cat wants of him... Gavin rubs all over Liam and Liam just stands there, wagging his tail and looking confused!) He's so worried about doing something wrong, but his curiosity is getting the better of him, and more of his personality is starting to shine through. Thank you SO much for allowing me to adopt this guy, I couldn't be happier! I've attached a few photos of last night and today. Thanks again!

Liz

Lunar
April 26, 2008
Hi Second Chance,
Lunar has adjusted great. She seems very happy as is everyone. She is so friendly and full of love. She's made a great addition to the family. Thank you.

Shadow
April 23, 2008
Hi Second Chance,
Shadow is doing good. He is such a love bug to the kids and I. Sophie and him have not become friends yet. She would hiss at him every time he got near her. Now she doesn't hiss but he doesn't seem to want any thing to do with her. Sophie is only a year old and just wants to play. Shadow doesn't seem interested in that. I am sure it is just a matter of time before they start to get a long. Take care,

Stephanie

Jacoby
April 23, 2008
Hi Second Chance,
Jacoby is great. He's sniffed and attacked the entire apartment. He has a friendly "chat" each morning with a squirrel that sits in the gutter just outside the window. I think he's just informing the squirrel who's really boss. He's quite vocal, about everything. If only I spoke the language! He's laid down a ground rule. Do not pick him up. If he comes to you, and sits in your lap, that's fine. But it must be on he's terms. He will even nap with me at night. He's a healthy eater. Many thanks for all you do!

Kate L.

Buddy

April 23, 2008
Hi Second Chance,
Just wanted to let you know that Buddy is adjusting very well. We also have a new kitten that he gets along with better than some people (he was caught licking her today). Just wanted to THANK YOU for letting us adopt BUDDY, he is part of the family already. We will keep you updated. Thanks again,

The Hughes Family!!

Kes and Neelix
(fka Spongebob and Sandy)

April 22, 2008
Hi Second Chance,
Kes and Neelix (formally known as Sponge Bob and Sandy) are doing fantastic. They were a bit hesitant at first but have adjusted very quickly. They are so playful and also love to sleep on your lap. Thank you again for the opportunity to adopt them! We have attached two pictures of them in their new home as well. Enjoy! Best Wishes,

Jen and Bryan

Lucky

April 15, 2008
Hi Second Chance,
Remember me LUCKY? My new family keeps saying that they are the "lucky" ones by adopting me into their family but I think it's equal, thank you. They love walking me and I even get to run with my new Dad some mornings. I am very spoiled with lots of love and I even get to spend time with my old shelter mate "Suzie Q". Suzie Q is now considered my Aunt and she and I had a great day visit when her parents went away for the day. I love playing with my toys and enjoy squeaky toys the best. I can even play all by myself which amuses my parents , I push with my nose the ball down the stairs and run as fast as I can hoping to catch it before it hits the bottom of the stairs. I think I "love" being brushed the most but there are so many great things I do at my new home it's hard too say which really is my favorite. Oh by the way all the long walks and fun I have with my new family I no longer chew everything in sight.... Who knew! Thanks again,

LUCKY Samuelson

Ivy

April 13, 2008
Hi Second Chance,
We're all doing very well. Ivy still isn't cuddling with the cats but they are all getting along much better. I went back to work last week and we gate Ivy in the kitchen for the day. When I got home yesterday, two of the cats were in there with her, all waiting for me to walk through the door. She can be somewhat possessive of me but I suspect when we're not around, they get along even better. We hired a dog walker to come in during the afternoon and take her out for a short walk. Ivy seems to like her very much and of course, she loves Ivy. Ivy and I walk for about 1.5 miles every evening. It's our time together. She's a great walking companion, which is exactly what I was hoping for. We were so nervous about bringing her home and now, we can't imagine life without our IvyBella. Best,

Nancy

Sheba in the Bahamas

April 11, 2008
Hi Second Chance,
Hi Guys---We just got home from the Bahamas. As you can see, a good time was had by all!! Sheba is obviously exhausted!! She's doing GREAT!! Such a sweet girl. It was interesting. There was another guest at the lodge and on his first day there, he came up to me and said "I can see that your dog is older, but I'm guessing that she hasn't been with you for too long and I'm betting that you got her from a shelter." I asked him how he knew that. He said "She's so devoted to you and is constantly aware of your whereabouts. You rarely see that in a dog that someone has had since they were 8 weeks old and never had any hard times." He went on to tell me about a dog he rescued from a really bad situation 25 year ago; and, Sheba reminded him of his old dog. He got a little misty and kept hugging Sheba everytime he saw her. It was really touching! She became a favorite of all the guests and the staff. They allowed her everywhere (even in the pool) except the dining room. She had such a ball!!!!

Take care--BETSY

Bruschi (fka Sam)
April 11, 2008
Hi Second Chance
Congrats on the upcoming Zootoo affair! Debra and I adopted a pup at the end of November. At that time he was known as Sam and he decided he liked the name Bruschi better (probably after watching all those Patriot football games). Bruschi is doing wonderful and he's getting to be a big boy. He is extremely healthy and is just so friendly it really is funny! He is still exhibiting the typical puppy behavior, but, to me, it shows he is a happy puppy when he is playful. The reason I am writing, is we have been looking for another puppy so that Bruschi has someone to run and romp with. It was due to the loss of our German shepherd due to cancer that we were looking for a new member to our family in November. I hope all is well and we will continue to send all of our empty ink cartridges to you!

Steve & Debra

Neena (fka Tootsie)
April 7, 2008
Hi Second Chance
Tootsie is doing very well. We have renamed her Neena and she and our other cat Leo (who we also adopted from second chance) are learning to get along just fine. So is a total purr ball and loves to cuddle. We can't wait until she's adjusted enough to snuggle in bed with us at night (currently she is still sleeping in her our room to give Leo some one on one time with us). Thanks for checking up!

Jessica, Nick, Leo and Neena

Hazel (fka Hannah Montana)

April 7, 2008
Hi Second Chance
She is doing great! She is a real sweetie....very playful and the boys just love her. They renamed her Hazel. She is eating well and seems very comfortable! Thanks so much!

Cindy

Blossom

April 6, 2008
Hi Second Chance
Almost 3 years ago I was fortunate to adopt Blossom, a Shih Tzu who had been turned into your shelter because of a move by her owners. Adopting her was one of the best decisions I have ever made. She has been a joy and pleasure to me and my entire family. Needless to say, she is the QUEEN and living a royal life of comfort, constant attention, and lots of love! I have in the past adopted dobermans from DRU and was very fortunate to have shared many years with them, so going from an 80 lb+ dog to a tiny 10 pounder was a change! We were afraid of stepping on her and her first bath terrified me! We have adjusted well to the size change, and she is a great cuddler - on my lap every time I sit to work - or email as she is right now!! Thank you for the opportunity to bring Blossom to our life.

Sincerely, Lori D.

Amber (fka Tye)

April 6, 2008
Hi Second Chance,
"Tye" is doing great, she does have a new name, it's now Amber. She has settled in well and is enjoying being a very spoiled kitty. There have been no problems with her insision, it's completely healed, the vet gave her a clean bill of health. She is very talkative, and lazy, and just plain loving life, when we're not trying to brush her teeth or comb her fur! Thank you for giving us the opportunity to spoil her! Lisa

Bella (fka Erica Kane)

March 30, 2008
Hi Second Chance,
Erica Kane (now Bella) seems to be doing pretty well. She's very much a lap cat -- the minute I sit down to watch TV at night, she's right there making herself very comfortable. And on sunny days when I can open the door to let the sun in, she loves laying in the sunniest spot she can find. We're still having a bit of a problem with our other cat -- there's still some hissing and snarling (from her as well as from him), but all in all things seem to be going well. She eats like a little pig but I think she's actually lost some weight (she was a bit chubby) because she runs up and down the cellar stairs a lot. So I guess we're doing OK for 3 weeks. She seems to be happy and adjusting well. Thanks for asking, and I'll keep you posted.

Sue N.

Scout (fka Seth)

Brady (fka Arrow)

March 27, 2008
Hi Second Chance,
I finally had time to send the happy ending pictures your way! :) What can I say to you Joe and the wonderful people at Second Chance??? Thanks so much for a wonderful dog, that makes us laugh all the time and completes our family! Scout is AWESOME! He is full of energy and keeps our 4 boys going all the time. At the end of the day they all fall asleep at the same time! ;) He is 98% outdoor potty trained. He goes to the door now. So I say another week and he will be a pro! My youngest (he's 2) calls him Brady, he doesn't quite get it. It's so cute though. We bought him a Kong toy to chew, and he doesn't chew it, so we tried all sorts of stuff, and the only thing he wanted to chew was his leash. We went through a couple of those and a harness. So I bought him a couple stuffed toys, a duck and a turkey and he doesn't leave them alone!!! He sleeps with them by his head or under hi head. It's like a baby with his blanket. He wouldn't dare rip them open! :) So funny. Well, we just love him and he fit in perfectly! Thanks again to you Joe and all the people at Second Chance for giving us an awsome few months with Arrow (Brady) and a life time with Seth. Keep up the good work, and remember your work doesn't go unseen! Especially by the animals!

Love, Linda, Chris, Leo, Tristan, Max, John & Scout

Luna

March 26, 2008
Hi Second Chance,
Luna is doing very well! We love her name and so "Luna" she is! She is so sweet and so social - she will jump on all our laps and curl up and go right to sleep. She has the most wonderfully loud purr! She is very playful and lively! Luna loves our 6 year old kitty "Boo". Boo is the kindest kitty I think I have ever met. She has been very nice to Luna - even when Luna jumps on her in her playful manner! They have even been known to curl up together in a chair and nap! I am so impressed with the ease of the transition of the newest member of our family. Luna is quite wonderful. I can't imagine a day without her!!

Macy (fka Goody)

March 25, 2008
Hi Second Chance,
Just a quick update on how Macy (fka Goody) is doing. She is the BEST!!!!! Macy is a retired racing greyhound, 6 yrs old, and WHY in the world would anyone NOT want a grey?!!! I don't know why everyone doesn't rescue a shelter dog. You look through that kennel gate into those eyes, and you just feel the love. Yes, you might also see the fear, the uncertainty--sure they're scared--who knows what they've been through? But look deeper into those eyes, see the hope, the willingness to trust again no matter what has happened-- that was yesterday, they live for "today" Follow your heart, because if you do, he will know it---and he will give his heart to you. That's just how dogs are. They give so much more than they take. Their commitment is forever. It's unconditional and its an honor and a privilege to be loved by a dog. Thank you Second Chance for my Macy girl.

Eileen

Buddy

March 24, 2008
Hi Second Chance,
Buddy here, remember me? My new home is awesome and I wanted to thank you for placing me with my new mom and dad. We love each other sooo much! We've been working on our basic commands. I'm pretty much a pro at "sit" and "down" now, and I'm trying my hardest to work on "stay" and "come", but sometimes I'm just so excited I just can't help myself. But Dad says I'm getting much better. He throws a ball around in the back yard all the time and I just loving chasing it and bringing it back for the next throw. I could do that all day!! Mom says I have some kind of Irish something-or-other in me, as you can see by some of the attached pictures. Well, I gotta run, there's a ball in the backyard with my name on it and it's calling me!!

Buddy

Rex

March 21, 2008
Hi Second Chance,
Rex has settled in quiet nicely in his new home. Him and Deacon love walking together in the mornings. Here are some pictures.

Callie

March 18, 2008
Hi Second Chance,
Recently the vet (he does my nails and hair) said I am 'past expiration date'! That was not gallant. But here I am, purring along, enjoying life and attention. I love sleeping with my forehead pressed against Sarah's. For the cold season I got an electric heat pad, for x-mas a pillow that is neither wobbly (my hips!) nor hard. In January there was one really warm day and I went outside to check the yard. One of our foster dogs is now with us permanently. He and I share the sunny spots on the sofa and in the yard. He cried a lot initially as he had a broken leg and was in pain. Sarah even let him sleep in OUR bed. It was ok. He steals my food, wipes his whiskers clean on the carpet, poops in the yard, and leaves his squeaky skunk in our bed. But he is fun to watch as he plays with his squeaky toys. Like a kitten. Ah, to be young again! In the fall the neighbor's cat tried to move in with us. Sarah stuck to her promise to let me enjoy my golden years without having to share my turf. It was hard on her though. She got a straw filled box for him from the local cat rescue so he wouldn't get wet in the rain, and had him vaccinated and his skin itch treated. He went back home after a few weeks. Phew! Hope all is well with you, and all the kitties are finding sunny homes. Love,

Callie

Hi Second Chance,
Remember me, Suzie Q? I am so happy with my new family. Mommy and Daddy think I am so cute and lovable. I can always cuddle on one of their laps while they are watching television or reading. Mommy likes to walk so I am getting lots of exercise and exploring new places. She can hardly keep up with me. Mommy got a little carried away buying me sweaters and coats so I have a special place in the closet. I am quite fashionable! I'm Daddy's "Q girl" and I go with him on all his errands. I especially like going to the dump because there are so many people there and I get a lot of attention. I get to sit in the front with him on my own special blanket and stick my head out to catch the breezes. It's a lot of fun!

There's one thing though I don't like and that's the darn rug in front of the fireplace. The stupid thing has fringe around it and it catches in my collar when I am giving my ears a good scratch. Mommy and Daddy think it's funny me dragging this stupid thing around that they took a few pictures. I'm attaching them so you can see what I have to put up with. They promise the rug will be put away when Spring arrives. Pretty soon we are going to Myrtle Beach and Mommy will take pictures of me I'm sure....you know how photogenic I am! Please say hello to everyone for me.

Friski (aka Miss Mohawk)

Hi Second Chance,
Hey everyone, I wanted to take a minute to give you an update. I love my new family, they make sure that I am fed well, and that I have a nice place to sleep. A lot has happened since I left second chance. First of all I have a new name, FRISKI, I think that it is perfect as I love to play all the time. I have also discovered that I have some new brothers and sisters. This has been a little bit of a challenge as I think that being an only child would have been a great thing, but there are times when having them around is great. I have grown quite a bit and I am happy. I want to thank everyone at Second Chance for taking such good care of me and for finding me a home. Love,

Friski

Brandy (aka Sandy)

March 14, 2008
Hi Second Chance,
A quick update on Brandy. She is spoiled rotten. She now has her own love seat to sleep on. She knows this is hers and to stay off of the other furniture (not that it mattered anyhow) but just to let her know that this love seat is her comfy bedding - AND BOY DOES SHE LOVE IT!!!! Brandy is a wonderful dog - real touchy, feely - she doesn't know when to stop. She is so lovable, she just doesn't want to stop. Excellent Dog. Thank You. I really love your shelter since this first time adopting Brandy. You do great work and it shows. Sincerely,

Michelle S.

Randy

March 10, 2008
Hi Second Chance,
Randy has been a wonderful addition to our family. He is getting along well with our pug Simon for the most part...feeding time needs to be supervised, but otherwise no problems between them. Randy is one big loving goof ball, who always seems to make us laugh. Our son Brett loves to get kisses from Randy and Randy is more than willing to give them, so they get along just fine. He went to the vet last week, he weighed in 47 lbs. - everything seems to be just fine, with the exception of an ear infection in the left ear, but then again he is a basset! We are truly blessed to have had the "second chance" to adopt Randy. He still on occasion has an accident when we have left him home, but we love him none the less. P.S. Please give Nicole our thanks for loving and taking such good care of our little boy! She was also very helpful to us, with all the information she provided regarding Randy. Thank you again,

Laura, Gary, Brett, Simon and Randy C.

Miley

March 4, 2008
Hi Second Chance,
Miley is doing great. We initially kept her in the master bedroom and bathroom for a few days so that our other cat (Annabelle) could get a little adjusted. We brought them together only in the evenings when the whole family was together. But, Miley is very curious so she finally found her way downstairs and into the living room. Annabelle is adjusting slowly and there have only been a few incidents just a few growls and hisses at Miley. What is funny is that Miley seems to have no idea - the growls and hisses do not appear to bother her - she just keeps playing. She is a cutie!

Hi Second Chance,
Reeses is doing so great and is so lovely. Her new name is Miley. She is so affectionate and follows us around and sleeps with my mom all the time. She just couldn't be sweeter! Thank you so much for Miley!

Lily

March 4, 2008
Hi Second Chance,
Lily is now Ellie. She's doing great!! Has already managed to win over Maurice, our other cat. She's very playful and loves our attention. Comes when she hears my voice and follows me around the house. We couldn't be more pleased with her.

Dusty

March 4, 2008
Hi Second Chance,
Dusty has adjusted just fine! She is so cute and affectionate and pretty well behaved. She get's crazy sometimes and she wakes me up in the morning by rubbing her face onto mine. But she is settling in...Her scar is healing fine from being spayed. I did change her name, its "Gizmo". She seems to like it. She's always right on my heels in the apartment always wondering what I am doing next and always wanting to do it with me, even in the shower!! haha....Thank you and Second Chance for giving me a great new friend. I hope the other kitty's that I saw have found homes too.

Jack

March 3, 2008
Hi Second Chance,
Just wanted you to know that Jack is doing very well. He is a joy to have. We go everywhere together and he loves to ride in the car. He brings me his leash when he wants to go outside or for a walk. We are just having such a great time together. Thank you for him. He has become my best friend.
