Second Chance Animal Services Joins the Global #GivingTuesday Movement

Pledges to Help More Pets in Need

Second Chance Animal Services has joined #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. Falling this year on November 28, #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (in the US) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday to kick off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support.

“Second Chance helped over 26,000 animals in 2016 and we’re on track to top that number in 2017, so we’re turning our sights to 2018 to help as many animals as we possibly can, but we can’t do it alone” said Lindsay Doray, Development Director at Second Chance.  “Giving Tuesday is the perfect opportunity to jumpstart our campaign for 2018 to make that possible.”

Charitable support helps Second Chance provide many services to pets in need, and to owners who would otherwise not have the means to care for their pet.  They offer full-service, subsidized veterinary care for those that qualify at veterinary clinics in North Brookfield, Springfield and Worcester, MA. They also offer low cost spays and neuters, community outreach, educational programs, training, a pet food pantry, and other services.

#GivingTuesday, started in 2011, was conceptualized as a new way of linking individuals and causes to strengthen communities and encourage giving by the 92nd Street Y in New York City. In 2016, the fifth year of #GivingTuesday, millions of people in 98 countries came together to give back and support the causes they believe in. Over $177 million was raised online to benefit a tremendously broad range of organizations, and much more was given in volunteer hours, donations of food and clothing, and acts of kindness.  Those who are interested in joining Second Chance’s #GivingTuesday initiative can visit www.secondchanceanimals.org.
