Surrendering a Pet
Surrender Policies
Surrendering a pet can be a difficult and heartbreaking decision for owners. Accepting surrendered animals and working to place them in new, loving homes is an important part of our mission. We cannot accept pet surrenders on a walk in basis normally because we have to ensure that we have space to take the pet in.
A special note on placing your dog or cat:
We receive many calls/emails from people needing to place their pet(s) and our space is very limited. We recommend taking the following steps:
- If your pet was adopted from Second Chance, we may be able to assist you. Please call the adoption center at (508) 867-5525 to discuss.
- If your pet was adopted from another shelter, call that shelter and inquire about their return policy.
Please do NOT post your pet on Craigslist or similar sites for free. There are many people that watch these sites looking for free pets and do not have the best of intentions. While there may be some good pet owners that go to these sites, we hear many more horror stories. If you choose to go this route, please be sure to do your homework to ensure that your pet is going to a great home.
