Dog’s Day Out

Active registered volunteers* who have completed dog care training at the Adoption Center are invited to take a dog out for field trip through our Dog’s Day Out Program. Everyone needs a day off, shelter dogs included!  This program is designed to get them out of the kennel environment and into the real world, providing enrichment and giving them the opportunity to meet more potential adopters.  It gives you the chance to get some dog time, even if you don’t have a dog of your own.

Dogs can be picked up Monday through Saturday beginning at 10 AM. You should plan to spend at least two hours on your field trip and return no later than 4 pm on Fridays and 5 pm the rest of the week. (Sorry, no field trips on Sundays.) We’ll set you up with everything you need for your adventure, including a list a dog friendly businesses to visit. Please remember to bring a valid ID with your current address to participate. Call ahead to ensure that we have a dog available to participate: (508) 867-5525.

* You must be an active registered volunteer to participate.

CatPawsitive

Second Chance took part in a pilot of Jackson Galaxy’s CatPawsitive program which uses  positive reinforcement to enhance the lives of shelter cats, teaching them new skills while promoting the human-cat bond and helping them become more-adoptable.  You may see some of our volunteers using these techniques to help some of our cats.

Thank you for considering volunteering with Second Chance Animal Services. We are a non-profit, 501 (c) 3 organization, which operates a no-kill shelter and foster care program for stray, abandoned, neglected, and surrendered dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens. We also operate four full service Community Veterinary Hospitals in North Brookfield, Southbridge, Springfield & Worcester. Volunteers with a variety of skills are needed to ensure the success of all our programs. Your help is GREATLY appreciated.

Jr. Volunteers must be accompanied by a parent or guardian while on premises. Jr. Volunteers that are 16 – 18 that are volunteering as part of a school project or requirement can volunteer without a parent or guardian with the approval of the parent/guardian and the school’s permission.
